What is a Microsoft Project 2010 Certification exam 71-178?

Once a candidates passes the"Exam 71-178: Microsoft Project 2010, Managing Projects", he/she receives a Certificate from Micorosoft indicating the candidate is proficient in using Microsoft Project 2010 software for setup and managing a project plan.

The exam includes topics related to Project Standard 2010 and Project Professional 2010 desktop features (excluding Project Server features) to manage a project schedule and communicate the project to individuals, teams, and the enterprise. The candidates should have experience in effectively scheduling, communicating, collaborating on, and delivering projects using these two applications. Candidates should also know key project management concepts and terminology as related to developing a project plan.

What is covered in the exam 71-178?

The Exam 71-178 has multi-choice online questions that test candidate’s knowledge on the use of the Microsoft Project 2010 software to setup and manage project plan and fundamentals on Project Management concepts.

The exam covers following topics:

  • Creating a Task-Based Schedule
  • Managing Resources and Assignments

  • Live exams include about 50 questions.
  • A typical exam takes up to 90-120 minutes.

  • After answering questions and pressing Submit, you'll find out immediately if you've passed or failed.
  • Exam 70-178 primarily used multiple choice and scenario questions to measure your abilities with the Project 2010 products. Exam 70-178 will be similar, but cover all of the new and relevant topics for Project 2010 desktop products.

What can I expect if I pass the exam?

As soon as you pass the exam, your name and exam results are automatically transferred to Prometric. Within four weeks of passing a certification exam, you will receive a mail from Microsoft with your certificate. The official title of the credential is "Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS): Microsoft Project 2010, Managing Projects."


What is the process for taking the exam?

It is a four step process:

  1. Prepare for the exam 71-178
  2. Register and schedule for the test online at a Prometric Authorized Testing Center in your area
  3. Go to the Testing center on the schedule date for the test with 2 forms of an official picture id.
  4. Take the exam

Within four weeks of passing a certification exam, you will receive an official certificate in the mail with Microsoft logo from Microsoft that highlights your accomplishment.
