What is the difference between Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) and Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Certification?

Microsoft offers following two different types of Certificates:

  • Microsoft Office Specialist Certification (MOS) is for Business Users to show the overall comprehension and deep expertise in Microsoft Office suite
  • Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Certification is for students to show their overall comprehension of Technology and to start developing a career in Operating System, Software Developer and Database Design.

What is the difference between Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) Exam?

The Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certification help student validate fundamental technology knowledge, provides students with a foundation for their careers, and helps them gain the confidence they need to succeed in advanced studies.

Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification helps show potential employers and college admissions offices that you have a depth of knowledge in a specific technology. Earning multiple MCTS certifications shows that you have breadth of knowledge across different products, capable of implementing, building, troubleshooting and debugging many different Microsoft technologies.

Keep in mind that MTA and MCTS are the entry level certifications in the career pathway to becoming a specialist in technology. As you gain more experience in using Microsoft Technology, you have option to take advance exam to become Microsoft IT Professional or Professional Developer, Microsoft Certified Master and/or Microsoft Certified Architect.

What is the process for getting an Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Certification?

The MTA Certification is available to students (school, college, university) only. A proof of Student Id will be required at the time of the test. Here are six steps process for getting an MTA certification:

  1. Select the MTA exam you wish to certify in
  2. Prepare for the exam
  3. Purchase a voucher for the exam.
  4. Find a Certiport Authorized Testing Center in your neighborhood.
  5. Register for the test
  6. Take the exam

Within four weeks of passing a certification exam, you will receive an official certificate in the mail with Microsoft logo from Microsoft that highlights your accomplishment.

Note: NR Computer Learning Center (NRCLC) is an Authorized Testing Center in Orange county and provides service to anyone interested in Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Certification exam.


How do I register for an MTA Certification exam?

To take a test you need a voucher. You can purchase MTA voucher from our website by clicking here (www.nrclc.com) or call our center at (714) 505-3475.

Note: Please allow 24 hours for the order. The voucher number will be to be transmitted to you via the "Contact Email" address you provided in the order process. There will be proctoring fee of $15 on the day of the test.

Once you have the voucher, you need to register for the test. If you want to take the test at NR Computer Learning Center, the center is located at 2100 W. Orangewood, Suite 110, Orange, CA. Call the center at (714) 505-3475 to setup an appointment to take the test. We are open Monday to Saturday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

The MTA exams are approximately one hour long. The score is based on the end result, not on the time taken to complete the test. The test results are displayed immediately and printed as soon as the test is completed.

An official Microsoft certificate with the Microsoft logo is mailed by Microsoft to candidates within four to six weeks after successfully passing the exam.
