FAQ: Summer Computer Camp at UCI

1. Who should attend the camps offered by NR Computer Learning Center?

Is your student interested in exploring computer science for personal development or as a career choice? Is your student planning to take AP® Computer Science in high school? Would your student like to learn programming languages, develop website/web app, or perhaps learn more about computer security and networking? Does your student want to be challenged by taking Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Certificate exams? If the answer to any one of these questions is “Yes”, then NR Computer Learning Center (NRCLC) courses are for you.

2. What are the courses being offered at your Summer Camp?

In our 2014 Summer Computer Camp (8/11-8/21) at University of California Irvine, NRCLC’s instructors are teaching AP Computer Science Test Prep for teens starting with computer programming languages such as Java and C++, and building towards Object Oriented Programming concepts as well as Data Structure and Algorithms – one of the toughest topics in computer science. We also have Prep courses on Microsoft Certification and C++ Certification.

3. Are NR Computer Learning Center courses offered only during the summer?

4.What are the benefits of courses offered by NR Computer Learning Center?

Our courses are designed to help students who are planning to take AP® Computer Science* in high school as well as those who are interested in game programming, website/app development, software engineering or robotics. For students who would like to challenge themselves and further enhance their learning, we offer associate level certification prep courses for Microsoft, CompTIA, and C++ Institute Exams. These Certificates validate students’ skill sets and provides a unique resume profile in preparation for College or perhaps a summer job. 5. How do I know which courses should I take?

We offer FREE information sessions to students and parents on Career development in computer technology with Microsoft Certification and AP® Computer Science. 6. How are the classes conducted?

We provide an environment where kids can explore the different areas of computer science while having fun. The courses consist of hands-on labs where students get an opportunity to apply what they have learnt. At the end of the day, we hold a review session to enhance learning. The classes are led by an instructor with a teacher:student ratio of 1:10. On the last day of the course, we do a show-and-tell when students display their projects and we have a presentation on how they can enhance their learning and which classes they can take going forward. Parent participation in the Show and Tell and presentation is optional. Once the presentation is over, we handout the Certificate of Completion to all the students who have attended the program.

7. Do you give a certificate when a student completes a course?

At the end of the course, the student get a Certificate of Completion from NRCLC. To get a Certification from Microsoft, Adobe or CompTIA, the student must pass the certification exam provided by those vendors. 8. Are the courses offered by NR Computer Learning Center for beginners or advance students?

Our courses are designed for students who have little or no knowledge of software development or website development as well as students who have mastered the basics and are ready to enhance their skills. Our courses for beginners are designed to teach the concepts such as how to build a computer, game programming, website/web app design and programming languages as Java and C++. Our courses are ideal for preparing teens who are planning on taking AP® Computer Science* in High School. Our intermediate and advance students can challenge themselves with our Prep courses related to Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe, AP Computer Science test prep and Certiport Certificate program.

9. What types of students attend the program?

This camp is designed for Middle and High school students ages 13 to 19. We have middle and high school students who are planning on taking AP® Computer Science* in High School. This series of courses is one of the favorites among the teens. We also get students who are interested in game programming, software application/website/web app design or computer networking and security. Some students like to take the class for fun. Advance students take our Microsoft and/or C++ Certification Exam Prep courses to prepare them for Microsoft Technology Associate Certificate Exam and the C++ Certified Associate Programmer Exam respectively. Certification validates a student’s skill set and provides a unique resume in preparation for college or a summer job. 10. Do you give a certificate when a student completes a course?

At the end of the course, the student get a Certificate of Completion from NRCLC. 12. When does the computer camp start?

The 2014 Summer Camp starts on August 11.

13. How long are these Camps?

Each camp is three days from 9 am to 5 pm.

14. Do you provide before and after school care?

15. What is the class size for your training program?

Classrooms can accommodate 26 students. One student is assigned per station. NRCLC reserves the rights to cancel a camp if there are less than 5 students registered for the program.

16. Do each student have their own computer during the class?

Yes, each student gets a computer to work. Our classes are designed to be hands-on and very interactive. Students will leave our class comfortable using the skills taught.

17. What is included in the Material fee?

Material fee includes a laptop and all printed material required during the class. The Material fee is discounted to $10 if the student brings his/her own laptop.

18. How much does the computer camp cost?

19. Is there a discount available?

Yes, we have Early Bird Discount of $30 available for all courses offered in the 2014 Summer Computer Camp. The Early Bird Special is given if you register before 07/13/14.

20. How do I register for the program?

There are several ways to register for a camp
