Microsoft Project Management

This is an instructor-led hands-on course that provides student with the knowledge and skills required to manage projects using Microsoft Project. The course is designed for new project managers and project coordinators with less than 1 year experience managing Technology projects. The course begins with the basic concepts of project management and leads students through all the functions they’ll need to plan and manage a project, including leveling resources managing the cost and monitoring the schedule progress. In this course, the students will create a project plan with task, resources, timeline and cost estimation. The students will also learn how to modify calendar, develop and update a project plan, integrate & manage multiple projects and generate various format of management reports such as Gantt chart, percentage completion chart and resource utilization chart. This course is also good for anyone preparing for Microsoft Project Certification Exam.

Prerequisites: Knowledge of computer basic.

The course will include following topics:

  • Develop and manage work breakdown structure (WBS) of information technology projects.
  • Coordinate task lists through the project
  • Organize/coordinate weekly progress review meetings with project team members
  • Manage high priority tasks, enhancements and/or bugs related to assigned projects
  • Set deadlines, assign responsibilities
  • monitor and develop summarized progress report
  • Prepare reports for upper management regarding status of projects
  • Manage project scope, goals, deliverables, required resources, budget, and timeline.
  • Design project plans, major tasks and milestones using scope, resources, budget and resources as criteria.
  • Develop plan for developing new systems and / or applications projects.
  • Update plan based on changes in current methods or techniques.
  • Update project plan to incorporate approved changes to scope.
  • Track project milestones, resources and cost
  • Track and coordinate project scheduled.
  • Management of key projects to ensure successful completion
  • Monitor project milestones and deliverables.
  • Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Assign duties and responsibilities
  • Manage multiple IT projects.

She has an MBA from University of California and a Master in Computer Science from Illinois Institute of Technology. She has worked for United Nations, General Motors, Toyota, EDS/HP and Mitsubishi. Her expertise includes project management, architecture, design and implementation of software development projects for various industries including manufacturing, financial, healthcare, and automotive. Vazi has been awarded as “Excellence in Development” for an Electronic Billing System by Mitsubishi’s telecommunication division, and Product Data Management System at Electronic Data Systems (EDS).
