About Our Program
NRCLC technology related classes are aligned towards STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics). Classes are hands on and progressive in design with a focus to generate a love for learning. The smaller class sizes of 10 students to instructor ratio with a one-to-one student/computer ratio, inquiry-based teaching methodologies and an active partnership with technology businesses, provides students the exposure to real-world applications.
NRCLC courses include learning to build a computer, troubleshooting computer, developing 2D games, programming a robot, making and editing their own movie, taking and editing digital pictures, building their own website or web profile using wordpress, learning HTML and JavaScript to build interactive website, learning basic and intermediate programming in Java, C, C++, C#, Python, building their own applications, creating a project and designing a database to store information, learning computer network and security, exploring entrepreneurship and managerial business skills and learning from the experts in the industry among others. We also provide students the opportunity to learn technology by volunteering. Our instructors provide guidance and classes to our students on how they can pursue their interests in technology in high school and college.
Computer Basic – Student will gain the knowledge and skills required to identify types of computers, their components such as microprocessors, motherboard, flash drive, hard disk, Memory, Keyboard, mouse and Input / Output devices, and how the data is managed by a computer. Students will also learn to build a computer from scratch! They will learn to install a motherboard, use software to create background image, work with sound, eliminate viruses, and use different parts of the computer. This is an introductory course for student interested in building a computer, learning how computers work, interested in programming or learning to develop games.
Create 2D Games Level 1 - This hands-on course is designed for students with little or no knowledge of game programming, but wants to learn the basic elements of creating a 2D game using GameMaker software. This is an excellent introductory course to game programming if a student is planning to become a game programmer – one of the hottest career fields today. Prereq: Computer Basic or equivalent.

Program Director: Vazi Okhandiar, MCT, PMP, MBA, MSCS
Vazi Okhandiar has over 20 years of teaching experience in Computer Science courses and Microsoft Products. Vazi teaches both kids and adults. She has been helping students prepare for AP Computer Science exam and Microsoft Certification Exam. She is currently on the Advisory Board of the Irvine Valley College and a SCORE Counselor for small businesses.
She has worked in the capacity of managing, architecture, designing and implementing information technology projects for large clients such as the World Bank, General Motors, HP/EDS, Toyota, CSC, Olympus and Mitsubishi, as well as numerous small and medium size enterprises.
Vazi has an MBA from the University of California, Irvine, a Master’s in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from University of California, Irvine. She is also Microsoft Certified Training providing Microsoft and software development training.
