Q. What is an Internet and Computing Core (IC3) Certification?

Certiport’s Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC³®) is an ideal certification for anyone who wants to demonstrate critical computer and Internet skills valued in today’s academic and professional environments. It is the world’s first certification program for digital literacy. IC³ is the most commonly recognized standard of digital literacy today. IC³ is both accepted for college credit by the American Council on Education (ACE) and aligned with the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for teachers and students from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE). Students and teachers who achieve IC³ certification possess the validated skills and knowledge required for basic use of computer hardware, software, networks, and the Internet. To become IC³ certified, you must pass the following three exams (each exam takes less than an hour to complete):

  • Computing Fundaments: Computer Hardware, Computer Software, Using an Operating System
  • Key Applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Living Online: Networks & Internet, Electronic Mail, Internet, Internet on Society

Q. What is the process for getting an IC3 Certification?

The IC3 Certification is a six step process:

  1. Select the product you wish to take the exam on:
    • Computing Fundaments (Hardware, Software, Operating System)
    • Key Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Living Online (Networking, Email, Internet & Internet Society)
  2. Prepare for the exam
  3. Purchase the voucher for the exam.
  4. Find a Certiport Authorized Testing Center
  5. Call to register for the test
  6. Take the exam
Note: In order to receive IC3 Certification, you must pass all three exams: Computing Fundamental, Key Applications, Living Online. Within four weeks of passing a certification exam, you will receive an official certificate in the mail with Certiport logo from Certiport that highlights your accomplishment.

Q. How do I register for an IC3 Certification exam?

The registration for IC3 exam is a two step process.

The first step is to purchase a voucher for the Exam. The voucher with free retake can be purchased online from website www.nrclc.com or call the NRCLC center at (714) 505-3475 for $40. You also have an option to purchase a discounted package with an online practice test and Voucher with Free retake for only $75.

The second step is to contact a Certiport Authorized Testing Center for the IC3 Exam to schedule for a time to sit for the exam. To find a Certiport Authorized testing center, visit the Certiport Center locator.
