NRCLC Summer Computer Camp in Orange County California

NR Computer Learning Center, located in Orange, California (close to Disneyland, south of LA and North of San Diego) has partnered with the City of Orange, Irvine Valley College, Microsoft, CompTIA and CIW to share the knowledge and experience with students in the areas of 2D Animation, Website Design and Java Programming. By attending the summer program, students will learn to design and develop games, website and applications. These programs are also beneficial for students who are planning to enroll in AP Computer Science, preparing for Microsoft Technology Associate exam or Adobe Certified Associate Exam or planning to build a career in web design, graphic design, game programming or computer science. Following is the list of classes being offered this summer:

Computer Basic - This hands-on course provides student the knowledge and skills required to identify different types of computers, and the components of a personal computer including microprocessors, motherboard, flash drive, hard disk, Memory, Keyboard, mouse and Input / Output devices. The students will also learn to build a computer from scratch! Students will learn to install motherboard, format hard drives, load software, eliminate viruses, run and troubleshoot software on the computer. This is an excellent introductory course for student interested in building a computer, preparing for A+ Certification Exam or Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) exam.

Robotics Level 1- In this hands-on course, students will learn to build and program real-life simple robotic actions using programmable NXT motor and robotic sensors: ultrasonic, sound, light, and touch. Students will work in a team of 2-4 members. Prereq: Computer Basic or equivalent.

Robotics Level 2- In this hands-on course, students will learn to design and build programmable robots using motors, sensors, gears, wheels and axles, and other technical components; build, test, troubleshoot, and revise designs to improve robot performance; use mathematical concepts such as estimating and measuring distance, time, and speed to control the action of a robot. Students will work in a team of 2-4 members. Prereq: Robotics Level 1 or equivalent.

Create 2D Games Level 1 - This hands-on course is designed for students with little or no knowledge of game programming, but wants to learn the basic elements of creating a 2D game using GameMaker software. This is an excellent introductory course to game programming if a student is planning to become a game programmer – one of the hottest career fields today – or preparing for Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) exam. Prereq: Computer Basic or equivalent.

Create 2D Games Level 2- This hands-on course is designed for students who already have a basic understanding of how to create 2D games and are looking to create engaging and interactive game that utilizes media, sound, video, images and animation. This is an excellent introductory course to game programming if a student is planning to become a game programmer – one of the hottest career fields today – or preparing for Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) exam. Prereq: 2D Game Level 1 or equivalent

Video Editing & Special Effects -This hands-on course introduces students to developing and editing a digital movie using Window’s MovieMaker, edit music using Audacity, add background sound and music, add special effects and text, cut unwanted movie clips, merge different movie clips, add pictures and upload movie to YouTube for friends and family to view. Prereq: Computer Basic or equivalent.

Game Programming for Beginners – Game Programming is an invaluable skill in today’s job market. Lean to develop programming skills using JavaScript. JavaScript language is an easy-to-use language that is commonly used from writing short scripts in web pages to full-blown web applications. Learn to write scripts to develop small games, move objects, draw shapes and more. This is an excellent introductory course for student starting a career in programming or developing games. Prereq: Computer Basic or equivalent

Introduction to Website Design with WordPress– Students will learn to use WordPress to create and manage their website. Students will use and customize templates, add functionality through use of plug-ins, add and manage content in an organized way, and learn to use HTML to edit the pages. This is an excellent introductory course to website design, students interested in starting a career in website designer & development or interested in developing a blog site for posting their ideas. Prereq: Computer Basic or equivalent

Programming in C++ – Basic - This is an introductory-level course where students will learn the basics of C++ programming to build software using Microsoft Visual Studio. Students will learn to use common functions, expressions, flow control, loops and more, to develop an application! This is an excellent introductory course to programming for students that plan to take an AP Course in Computer Science, start a career in software development, become a game programmer – one of the hottest career fields today – or preparing for Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Certification Exam. Prereq: Computer Basic or equivalent.

Game Programming with Java – Basic - This hands-on introductory-level course enables students to learn the basics of Java programming language to build software. Students will use variables, classes, expressions, flow control, loops and more to develop an application! This is an excellent introductory course to programming for students planning to take an AP Course in Computer Science, start a career in software development, want to become a game programmer – one of the hottest career fields today – or preparing for Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Certification Exam. Prereq: Computer Basic or equivalent.

Game Programming with Java – Intermediate - Once a student has mastered the basics of Java programming, then they are ready to learn some of the tougher Object Oriented concepts such as creating classes, objects, method overloading, constructors, destructors, polymorphism, arrays, strings, dynamic data and more, to develop advance applications. By the end of the course, students will be able to develop interactive applications. This is an excellent course to programming if a student plans to take an AP Course in Computer Science, start a career in software development or want to become a game programmer – one of the hottest career fields today. Prereq: Programming with Java Basic or equivalent.

Microsoft Technology Associate course #98-349: Windows OS Fundamentals - This MTA Training course helps students prepare for MTA Exam 98-349 and builds an understanding of these topics: Operating System Configurations, Installing and Upgrading Client Systems, Managing Applications, Managing Files and Folders, Managing Devices, and Operating System Maintenance. Prereq: Computer Basic or equivalent

Microsoft Technology Associate course #98-361: Software Development- This MTA Training course helps students prepare for MTA Exam 98-361 and builds an understanding of these topics: Understanding core programming, Understanding object-oriented programming, Understanding general software development, Understanding web applications, Understanding desktop applications, Understanding databases. Prereq: Programming with C++ Basic or Java Basic or equivalent.

Microsoft Technology Associate course #98-374: Gaming Development Fundamentals- This MTA Training course helps students prepare for MTA Exam 98-374 and builds an understanding of these topics: Game Design, Hardware, Graphics, and Animation.
